Clark Shawnee Playground Development 2026

Prodigy Building Solutions was hired to replace the existing playground mulch and perimeter edging with a new, durable, low‑maintenance turf system. The project also expands the overall play footprint, improves drainage, and enhances long‑term safety and accessibility for students.

Excavation & Site Preparation

Work began with full excavation of the current playground footprints, removing all existing mulch, edging, and underlying materials. Additional excavation was performed in areas outside the original footprint—identified in the project sketch—to enlarge the playground and create a more functional layout. All removed materials were hauled offsite for proper disposal.

Drainage Improvements

To ensure long‑term performance and prevent water accumulation beneath the new turf system, Prodigy installed drainage tied into existing catch basins or daylighted into approved alternate areas. This drainage layer supports proper water movement and protects the poured buffing base and turf from premature wear.

Safety Surfacing Installation

A poured buffing base was installed across the entire playground area. This base layer was engineered to meet fall‑height requirements for the existing playground equipment, providing compliant impact attenuation and a smooth, stable foundation for the turf system.

Turf Installation

New playground turf was laid, seamed, and secured around all existing equipment. Seams at the perimeter and around posts, uprights, and play structures were glued down and edge‑rolled to ensure a tight, clean finish. The turf system provides a consistent, accessible surface that eliminates the maintenance challenges associated with loose mulch.

Final Result

The upgraded playground delivers a cleaner, safer, and more modern play environment with improved drainage, expanded space, and a resilient turf system designed for heavy daily use. The new surfacing enhances accessibility, reduces ongoing maintenance, and provides a visually appealing play area built for long‑term performance.
